Biographies of Justin & Yoshiko Dart
Justin Dart, Jr., 1998 recipient of the Presidential Medal
of Freedom, has recorded five decades of advocacy for human rights
in U.S.A., Mexico, Japan and other nations. He has served five gubernatorial,
one Congressional and five Presidential appointments in the area
of disability policy.
He has founded and acted as the CEO of two small businesses, and
one that started with four persons, and grew to 26,000 employees
and sales representatives.
During the past 20 years he has visited each of the fifty United
States at least five times to advocate for the passage and implementation
of the historic Americans with Disabilities Act, and the empowerment
of people with and without disabilities.
In 1993 he resigned as Chairman of the President's Committee on
Employment of People with Disabilities in order to be a full time
advocate for a society that empowers all to live their God-given
potential.
In 1999 the Smithsonian Institution asked for and received his
trademark cowboy hat and boots, his pen that signed the ADA, and
his Freedom Medal.
Yoshiko Saji Dart, married Justin Dart, Jr., in 1968. Since
then she has been his full partner in promoting the rights and empowerment
of people with and without disabilities in the area of disability
policy and years of citizen advocacy for civil rights, independent
living, ADA, universal health care, and the election of pro-disability
rights candidates.
For the last six years, she has been the informal CEO of Justice
For All. She has received numerous awards and commendations, including
major recognitions from the President's Committee on Employment
of People with Disabilities and Presidents Bush and Clinton.
