ILRU and the Rehabilitation Services Administration,
part of the U.S. Department of Education
present
Olmstead Resources
In 2001, ILRU partnered
with BIA, Inc. to conduct five
regional training sessions on implementation of the Olmstead
decision. The purpose of the project, "Disability
Advocacy in a Post-Olmstead Environment," was to prepare
advocates to advance implementation of the Olmstead
decision within each state. The project offered training and information
resources. Participants concluded training with a basic understanding
of the Olmstead decision,
consumer direction, personal assistance services, Medicaid policy
and practices, related state laws, Olmstead plans, related
services and benefits, and exemplary programs and strategies for
Olmstead implementation. Additionally, participants had a
clear understanding of how to secure in-depth information on all
of these topics. Included in this site is the listing of trainers
and the dates of the training and the states
that participated.
ILRU continues to assist in the implementation of the Olmstead
decision through training, technical assistance, and the provision
of working with advocates in their states on developing plans for
delivering services to people with disabilities
NEW!! IL NET, a project of ILRU,
has two sets of materials at: Olmstead
and Community: A Three Course Self Study Series on Community Integration
for Persons with Disabilities and Olmstead
and Community: Implementing the New Freedom Initiative.
