Steps for how to use the HUD low-income tax credit Web page
1. Connect to the Internet
2. Visit the
Web site at http://lihtc.huduser.org (Note: there is not a
www before the address.) You will see three parts to the Web site.
Along the left hand side of the page are two sections, one on
top of the other. There are the two boxes you will need to visit
in order to enter your selection criteria. The top box asks you
to select the variables you want to extract from the data base.
The bottom box asks you to select a state or states.
3. Go to the section on the upper left hand side
of the page entitled "Select the variables". There you
will have a long list of variables from which to select. They
are divided into 5 categories, but without paying attention to
the categories, you will select the following variables: a. Project
name and address b. total units c. low-income units d. year project
placed in service e. year credits allocated, and f. new construction/rehab
code.
4. Go to the section on the lower left hand side
of the page. The first words you will see there are Select a single
State or multiple States. The first drop down menu asks you to
select a single state. You will highlight or select your state.
5. As soon as you select your state a new screen
will appear in the large window on the screen. That window is
located on the entire right hand side of the screen. The new screen
will ask you to refine your inquiry. There are 12 smaller boxes
within that screen where you can make selections. You only need
to highlight choices in the two boxes on the left hand side of
the screen. The top left box asks you to select city or cities.
The bottom left box asks you to select county or counties. Makes
those selections. Note: you have the option to choose all cities
and/or counties.
6. Near the very bottom of the page is a button
to push that says "Retrieve Project Data."
7. Once you retrieve the data, we suggest you download
it. During the Web cast, Steve Gold will discuss how to read and
interpret the data.
