Abstract
The web broadcast will focus on assistive technologies and research.
The issues addressed will include developing questions about AT
that have relevance to people with mobility impairments. Understanding
the importance of formulating questions that meet scientific criteria
and are feasible to answer will be reviewed. Standard tests and
newly developed measures will be discussed that contrast the settings
where studies are conducted, the differences in the type of results
found and the generalizations possible to make from the different
approaches. The differences between capacity tests and participation
assessments will be presented. The importance of involvement with
people with mobility limitations, local advocacy groups, therapists,
engineers and durable medical equipment dealers will be made evident.
Several projects will be reviewed to illustrate the development
of community based research for people with mobility impairments.
Ample time for discussion will be reserved.
