So You Want To Live On Your Own -
What's AT Got To Do With It?

Abstract

The most basic and essential aspect of “Independent Living” is the ability to live in your own home, on your own terms, and in your own community. Across the country, people in the IL movement are working hard to give people with disabilities the right to choose where and how they live. Already many CILs, SILCs, and other organizations around the country have programs that are freeing people from nursing homes every day.

What does it take to live independently?

More and more frequently, the answer is: ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY. As science continues to test the boundaries, Assistive Technology is becoming an increasingly more important part of the independence of people with disabilities.
But where do I get it? How do I pay for it?

Join us to learn from two trainers that have been successfully using Assistive Technology to allow people in nursing homes and others to achieve their independence. They can answer your questions, walk you through their programs, and maybe more importantly, free you from many of the myths of Assistive Technology.

SIGN UP IF YOU WANT TO:

  • Gain a basic understanding of the range of assistive technology

  • Explode some of the most common myths surrounding AT

  • Find creative and cost effective solutions to AT hurdles

  • Empower your consumers to create their own ideas

  • Learn about two already successful frameworks for incorporating AT into IL services

Assistive Technology for Living Independently More now than ever, people with disabilities can “rely” on a piece of technology to increase their independence. What are we really doing in the Independent Living field but working to increase independence? Assistive Technology has to be an integral part of any program seeking to get people with disabilities back into the community living on their own. You want to live on your own? You want to help your consumers live on their own? Sign up for this 90-minute teleconference and find out exactly what assistive technology has to do with it.
