So You Want To Live On Your Own -
What's AT Got To Do With It?
Abstract
The most basic and essential aspect of “Independent
Living” is the ability to live in your own home, on your
own terms, and in your own community. Across the country, people
in the IL movement are working hard to give people with disabilities
the right to choose where and how they live. Already many CILs,
SILCs, and other organizations around the country have programs
that are freeing people from nursing homes every day.
What does it take to live independently?
More and more frequently, the answer is: ASSISTIVE
TECHNOLOGY. As science continues to test the boundaries, Assistive
Technology is becoming an increasingly more important part of
the independence of people with disabilities.
But where do I get it? How do I pay for it?
Join us to learn from two trainers that have been
successfully using Assistive Technology to allow people in nursing
homes and others to achieve their independence. They can answer
your questions, walk you through their programs, and maybe more
importantly, free you from many of the myths of Assistive Technology.
