Transportation and the ADA:
Latest Updates, Service Animals, Q&A

Abstract

Transportation remains a difficult issue for many people with disabilities. In this Web cast, Marilyn Golden will address some of the hot topics and latest updates regarding transportation and the ADA.

Service Animals & Transportation

The first topic, as a follow-up to three recent Web casts about Service Animals & the ADA, will be Service Animals and Transportation. Please send your relevant questions to webcast@ilru.org ahead of time to be included here. A key issue will be the transport of service animals in ambulances.

Other topics will include:

  • On fixed route buses: old lift equipment that frequently breaks down;

  • Paratransit: trends, principles and issues regarding late cancellation policies (“no-show” policies);

  • Paratransit eligibility – new document addressing the topic, functional assessments, best practices, and enforcement;

  • Paratransit – other key issues; and

  • Accessible taxis – how some cities are obtaining them.

The volume of questions for this Web cast is expected to be very high. Please try to submit questions by June 15 to webcast@ilru.org. This will help us address as many questions as possible during the hour and a half Web cast. Thank you.
