YOUTH LEADERSHIP:
Creating Leaders for the Future of the IL Movement

Overview

Investing in methods to help youth with disabilities realize the importance of independent living while they are still young could produce invaluable IL leaders. Youthful leaders are likely to foster further youth participation, provide a fresh perspective on the goals of the disability community, and continue a life-long advocation for IL interests. The concerted effort of today's advocates to successfully interest youth with disabilities in the IL movement will ensure progress in the future. The youth you and your staff recruit today could very well be a future CIL or SILC director, a ground-breaking advocate, mentor or all of the above!

  • Why youth are a vital part of the IL movement

  • How to interest youth and retain them in your organization
