Bridging the Gap Between Disability Support Services and Career Services on College Campuses

Abstract

This Web cast will discuss the research conducted in 1999 that formed the basis of the Disability Careers Office at the University of Tennessee and, ultimately, the creation of COSD as a national organization. The presentation will cover the background including the observation of a few students with disabilities using Career Services and the realization of what that means in the recruitment of these students by employers who come to only one office, Career Services. It will discuss the creation of the Disability Careers Office, including nuts and bolts of why this model was adopted and how the basic concept can be, and has been, applied to other schools. Muir will also talk about the challenges that were faced and how they were solved.
