About the Presenters
Daniel W. Wong, Ph.D., Professor and director of the doctoral
program in Rehabilitation Counseling and Administration, Department
of Rehabilitation Studies, School of Allied Health Sciences, East
Carolina University, Greenville, NC.
Dr. Wong has more than 18 years of experience in rehabilitation
education and research. Awards: 1992 Research Award from the American
Counseling Association and 1991 New Career in Rehabilitation Education
Award from NCRE. He has over 40 publications in journals and numerous
position papers in national and international journals. He has
made over 100 presentations at the national and international levels.
He was the Editor of the Journal of Rehabilitation Administration
(1998-2002), the Editor of Disability International (1997-2001)
and an Associate Editor for Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin
(1991-1994). He has been the recipient of a number of NIDRR, RSA
and SSA funded grants.
Lucy Wong Hernandez, MA, is an Research Associate
at the Department of Rehabilitation Studies, School of Allied Health
Sciences, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.
Ms. Wong Hernandez has extensive experience in the disability
field as it relates to academics, disability rights advocacy, social
policy and service provision for persons with disabilities. She
was the Executive Director of Disabled People International (DPI)
from 1996-2002. She has done extensive work in the areas
of multiculturalism and disability nationally and internationally
and has received numerous awards for her contributions and work
related to rehabilitation, and quality of life for persons with
disabilities from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. She
received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award of the Rotary Foundation
of Rotary International, Liberty Bell Award of the Bar Association
of Nassau County, New York, Inductee to the U.S. National Hall
of Fame of Persons with Disabilities, and the Americans
with Disabilities Act Award.
