Eight Years After Olmstead

Abstract

The U.S. Supreme Court decision Olmstead v. L.C and E.W. – handed down in June 1999 – may be considered one of the most momentous decisions affecting community living for people with disabilities. This webcast will review why the Olmstead decision has been so important in interpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and examine its effects on federal and state policy. The webcast will review promising practices around the country that have resulted since the decision eight and one-half years ago, and also barriers that remain. Participants are invited to share initiatives in which they are involved in their communities.
