Independence, Inc. is a community-based private nonprofit Independent Living Center in Lawrence, Kansas. Established in 1978, the Center provides advocacy and a broad range of services and education to people with disabilities in a multi-county area. Lawrence is located 30 miles west of Kansas City, is the home of the University of Kansas, and is the fastest growing city in the state of Kansas.

Executive Director

TIME: Full-time
BENEFITS: Health, Dental, Cafeteria Plan, 401(K) Retirement Plan
SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $65,000
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Board of Directors
PURPOSE:
To administer and direct the operation of Independence Inc., in accordance with policies defined by the Board of Directors, funding regulations and the organization’s mission. To give direction and leadership toward the achievement of Independence Inc.’s philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Board Administration and Support - Supports operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing the Board members, interfacing between the Board and staff, and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
2. Program, Product and Service Delivery - Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services.
3. Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management - Recommends and prepares yearly budget for Board approval and manages the organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
4. Human Resource Management - Effectively manages the human resources of the organization according to approved personnel policies and procedures that conform to current laws and regulations.
5. Program Leadership and Support - Provides the leadership to develop a cohesive organization out of the various programs within the agency.
6. Community and Public Relations - Assures that the organization’s mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to the community and relevant stakeholders.
7. Fundraising - Oversees fund-raising planning and implementation, including resource identification, funding sources, strategies and proposals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of B.A. /B.S. degree in business management or human
services-related field.
- A minimum of three years experience
in a management position which includes the following:

Fund accounting, budgeting and resource allocation
-
Personnel management
- Management Information Systems
-
Program Evaluation and data management skills
- Community
based programming
- Fee for service programming
-
Planning, organizational structures and setting priorities
- Experience
with grant writing and grant management
- Written and oral skills,
comfortable with making presentations before small and large groups.
- Knowledge
of, comfort with and commitment to Independent Living Philosophy.
- Ability
and willingness to travel.
- Ability to relate with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business management or human services-related
field
- Minimum of five years of experience in management position
- Previous
management experience in an Independent Living Program
- Experience
with Medicaid funded programs
