NCIL Mourns the Passing of Louis Frick

Passing of Louis Frick

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of Louis Frick, a longtime CIL director and past NCIL board member. The Independent Living community has lost a truly wonderful friend and an incredible leader. Louis passed away in his sleep on Thursday, June 29.

Louis had been the Executive Director of Access to Independence in San Diego since 2003, but he was involved with the CIL for close to four decades. Louis also served on several boards and councils and received numerous awards for his contributions to the community. He served as a board member and elected officer for NCIL, was appointed to the California SILC by Governor Schwarzenegger, served as the chairperson for the Mayor’s Committee on Disability (City of San Diego), and was a member of the Executive Committee for the California Foundation for Independent Living. He was also a member of the Host Committee for Super Bowl XXXVII and in 2005 was given a Peacemaker award by the National Conflict Resolution Center for his work on Petco Park.

Louis was a tireless advocate whose commitment to the community cannot be understated. Kelly Buckland, NCIL's Executive Director said "Louis was a strong leader and a great advocate. He will be missed by many." He will be missed not only for his contributions, but for his dear friendships with so many in the community.

We would like to express our condolences to Louis's family and friends during this difficult time. Louis will be dearly missed by the NCIL family. As a previous Board member and leader within NCIL, we will be honoring Louis by hanging his picture on NCIL’s Wall of Fame here in the office.

A celebration of Louis's life will be held on July 29 from 11:00-1:00 on the San Diego State University Campus's Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.
