Volunteers are needed for an Online Weight Loss Study for Men and Women with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
About the Study
You may be eligible to participate if you: are at least 18 years of age, have a spinal cord injury with onset at least one year ago, are overweight or obese, live in Houston or the surrounding area, and have an interest in making lifestyle changes to lose weight.
If eligible, you will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to one of two groups: 1) a group that receives the weight loss program or 2) a control group. Those assigned to the weight loss group will participate in a 24-week group weight loss program that meets online (with face-to-face meetings held at TIRR Memorial Hermann once a month). Participants in the control group will receive the weight loss materials at the end of the study.
All participants, regardless of group assignment, will be asked to come to TIRR Memorial Hermann on three occasions to be weighed and have body measurements taken. You will also be asked to complete online questionnaires and wear a physical activity monitor for seven days after those three occasions. Contact us today and ask about becoming a participant in the "SCI Weight Management Research Study" by phone at 713.797.7572 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This research study is being conducted through TIRR Memorial Hermann’s Spinal Cord Injury and Disability Research Center, Houston, Texas. The study is funded by the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
