Experiencing the short- and long-term impact of a disaster can be devastating for anyone.  We know this is especially true for people with disabilities, older adults, and their families.  For decades, Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and State Independent Living Councils (SILCs) have made significant contributions in assisting these individuals prepare for and navigate the upheavals and threats to their health, independence, and community living that occur before, during, and following such events.

Ensuring that all older adults who live in nursing homes are supported, nurtured and empowered requires a collective focus on care improvement from clinicians, staff, family caregivers and residents themselves. SAGE’s Center of Excellence has partnered with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to conduct the “State of LGBTQ+ Aging Survey.” The survey seeks to better understand the current experiences, needs, and resiliencies of older people in the U.S. who identify as LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, Two-Spirit, or related identities).The survey is now open to LGBTQ+ adults 50 years old and older.
