Assistive Technology Coordinator, The Dayle McIntosh Center, CA

About the Position

The Dayle McIntosh Center is Orange County’s only Independent Living Center (ILC).  DMC is a consumer-driven organization working to advance empowerment, equality, integration, and full participation of people with disabilities in the community. The majority of the staff at DMC are persons with disabilities. The current job opening is for the Assistive Technology Coordinator. 

The Assistive Technology Coordinator conducts outreach and education activities to advance and improve the use of Assistive Technology (AT) within the disability community; administers a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) recycle program; provides demonstrations and instruction on the use of AT; works with consumers to address their AT needs; and, provides training on a variety of AT devices and accessibility software to consumers of the Department of Rehabilitation, Regional Center, and others. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working from the Anaheim office. Currently telecommuting during the COVID-19 crisis.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes use of Assistive Technology within under-served and under-represented consumer populations, specifically the Latino, Spanish-speaking community;
  • Advances the importance of AT in helping people with disabilities to live independently;
  • Provides training to Department of Rehabilitation clients on a variety of AT devices and accessibility software;
  • Implements strategies to increase the use of AT in the business sector;
  • Identifies potential funders for acquisition of AT;
  • Engages with other Independent Living Center (ILC) AT Coordinators in an effort to strengthen and expand acquisition and use of AT;
  • Operates an AT reuse program to recycle assistive devices and equipment;
  • Conducts training on AT equipment, devices, accessibility software, and supportive systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, at least one year experience working or training in Assistive Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education & experience;
  • Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification (RESNA) is highly desirable;
  • Working knowledge of the Independent Living philosophy and methodology;
  • Bilingual in Spanish is required, ability to communicate in ASL is a plus.
