About the position

The Center for Independence is a 501 (C) (3) organization serving as a resource for individuals with disabilities to fully access and participate in the community through outreach, advocacy, and independent living skills development. We serve senior citizens with senior-related disabilities as well.

TITLE: Associate Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

PURPOSE: The Associate Director will provide support to the Executive Director to carry out the CFI mission. The Associate Director will also support direct staff in providing IL services in the eight counties we serve. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and a proven track record in developing programs, securing funding and developing leadership in staff. Candidate must also have the desire to empower people with disabilities and understand IL Philosophy.


  1. Support the Executive Director with securing funding for the organization through grant writing, seeking and negotiating contracts, and/or fundraising.
  2. Manage staff and provide guidance to direct staff who provide IL services to participants.
  3. Submit billing and reports for monthly fee-for-service programs such as DVR, NeuroRehab, DDA, etc.
  4. Work with Director in preparing and writing annual performance reports to submit to main funder.
  5. Build and maintain relationships within the community to increase CFI visibility.
  6. Seek out funding opportunities with partners and other identified funding sources.
  7. Assure services provided are of appropriate quality and are consistent with CFI philosophical principles.
  8. Document work/activities in agency database to remain compliant.
  9. Provide training to new employees, interns, and volunteers.
  10. Conduct systems advocacy as opportunities arise and/or represent CFI on various disability related committees.
  11. Develop and implement programs to expand services.
  12. Other duties assigned.


  • BA degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or a related field. MSW or other related master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Experience working at a Center for Independent Living is a plus or Independent Living Philosophy background.
  • Strong personable and communications skills.
  • Experience in social service program development and leadership development.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to WORD, EXCEL, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to become proficient in using CFI’s client database and any other software programs needed to perform job duties.
  • Knowledge of ADA regulations is a preferred. Fluent in ASL is preferred.
  • Experience living with a disability is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle. Travel is required for this position.

STATUS: This is a full-time salary position, 40 hours a week minimum. Benefit package available.

SALARY: Depending on qualifications and experience.
