Meet the Family Caregivers Featured in the RAISE Family Caregivers Act Initial Report to Congress

In support of the RAISE Family Caregiver Advisory Council’s initial report to Congress and the National Family Caregiving Strategy that will be developed over the coming year, the Administration for Community Living, The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) partnered to share the lived experience of family caregivers across the lifespan.

While caregiving affects everyone, caregivers are diverse in backgrounds, needs, and experiences. To ensure the RAISE Family Caregiver Advisory Council’s recommendations reflected the priorities and needs of today’s caregivers, the council reviewed over 1,600 public comments in response to a request for information and listened to a series of focus groups convened by Community Catalyst.

The council also worked with JAHF, NASHP and NAC to recruit 26 diverse caregivers from across the nation representing a range of caregiving situations and needs. NAC interviewed the caregivers virtually during the pandemic. These caregivers stories appear throughout the council's Initial Report to Congress to illustrate the complexities, demands, and rewards of family caregiving.
