Originally offered as a three-day on-location training, this module covers the following topics:

  • Involving youth as an integral part of center operations and services.
  • Learning about best and promising practices for self-sustaining youth transition programs.
  • Assessing your CIL's capacity and readiness for introducing or expanding youth transition services.
  • Assisting youth in making a successful transition from school to work, post-secondary education, adult health care, and independent living

Upon completion of this training, you will have had the opportunity to learn:

  • How "nothing about us without us" pertains to including youth in a CIL.
  • What experienced CILs are doing to embed youth services within a CIL's organizational structure.
  • How several CILs have designed, funded, and staffed effective youth transition services.
  • How youth transition services connect to your CIL's core functions.
  • Effective approaches for developing or expanding services.
  • How to partner with school systems, VR, colleges & universities, parents, health care professionals, and others to support transitioning youth.
  • How to assess your CIL's existing policies and practices.
  • How CILs can support Youth Leadership Development,
  • and more.
