About the Training

Leadership for Statewide Independent Living Councils

COURSE DATES: July 11 - August 19, 2022

PURPOSEThis online course is designed to assist statewide independent living council staff, members, and boards in areas related to leadership at their SILC.

COURSE LEVEL: Introductory

TARGET AUDIENCE: Statewide Independent Living Council staff, members, and boards.

COURSE FEESThere is no charge for this course. However, withdrawals must be received by email BEFORE the first day of the course. Registrations are non-transferable after the beginning of the course. Only a limited number of participants can be accepted for each course.

FORMAT: Online courses offered by the IL-NET T&TA Center offer a more in-depth review of content over a six-week time period and are conducted online on the CourseAvenue platform. The online courses are facilitated by instructors who are peers and have years in the independent living field. Participants will be asked to complete the following activities during the course:

  • Read designated sections of the course manual and complete 2-3 weekly assignments
  • Post weekly assignment responses on the course discussion board and review and respond to posts from peers
  • Participate in instructor-led office hours for live discussion and Q&A with the course instructor(s) and peers
  • Pre- and post-knowledge assessment and a final course evaluation survey

Participants can access the course website at any time of the day or night. This can be done from any computer with an Internet connection; participants may take the course from the location that is most convenient for them—at home or at work.

Course instructor(s) estimate that participants should spend 3-5 hours each week reading assignments, completing course work, and participating in discussions. Participants are encouraged to keep up with the discussion and to respond and engage with other course participants.
