More than two decades ago, the local nonprofit Agape Child & Family Services initiated 2Gen, its two-generation, place-based model to support families in the Memphis, Tennessee, area. Agape’s adoption of a two-generation strategy was emblematic of a larger movement in the 21st century among community-based nonprofits and foundations across the country to integrate services and supports for entire families, rather than focus on the needs of children or their parents in isolation.
