Americans with Disabilities Act

This handbook is a broad overview of rights and obligations under federal disability laws. Individual state laws may impose more stringent obligations. The central aim of this Guide is to empower court personnel to adeptly respond to a broad spectrum of court users with disabilities, spanning litigants, defendants, jurors, attorneys, witnesses, parents, children, juveniles, divorcees, practitioners, court spectators, and more, by creating methods of collective access where disability-related needs are acknowledged, embraced, and upheld with respect.

The updates of this booklet include a more comprehensive and practical guide that is designed to be utilized by local, state, and federal government correctional institutions, government-funded private detention facilities and other corrections contractors, in order to educate and train staff regarding their ADA and other civil rights responsibilities towards both inmates and visitors who have disabilities.

The Disability Law Index contains federal statutes and regulations organized by subject and includes court case opinions and legal articles that help interpret federal disability-related laws.
