About the Video

This one hour video was originally produced in 1978, and reproduced in July 2015 for presentation at the NCIL Conference.

From the narrator, Lex Frieden:  "Independent living is a comparatively new programmatic concept in rehabilitation.

In this presentation, we will look at six innovative programs which are designed to facilitate independent living by severely disabled individuals.

Each of these programs is unique.

They approach key issues such as consumer involvement and residential service provision from various perspectives.

Yet, each of them has demonstrated remarkable success in helping severely disabled people live more independently than if they were institutionalized in nursing homes or restricted to living with their parents.

Each of these presentations was produced by the people who are served by these programs and who operate them."
