Today marks the start of Older Americans Month (OAM) – a chance to celebrate the contributions older adults make to our lives and our communities. This month is also an occasion to highlight important trends, recognize challenges and achievements, and strengthen our commitment to supporting older Americans.
With the RAISE National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, we have the nation’s first-ever blueprint to improve the lives of caregivers, but it will take all of us working together—and adding others to our ranks—to act on this milestone.
FEMA is accepting applications for seven discipline-specific positions and up to two Administrator-selected positions. Discipline-specific positions include a specialty in any one of the following fields: disabilities, access and functional needs; elected tribal government official; emergency management; emergency response provider; non-elected tribal government official; health scientist; and standards setting and accrediting.
Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s whole-of-government approach to combatting COVID-19, we are now in a better place in our response than at any point of the pandemic. One of the critical components of our response has been ensuring all Americans have easy access to COVID-19 vaccines free of charge. Over the last two years, the Biden-Harris Administration has effectively implemented the largest adult vaccination program in U.S. history, with nearly 700 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines given to 270 million Americans.
Communities today face an increasingly complex set of challenges, as both communities and systems are experiencing chronic stressors such as aging infrastructure, environmental degradation, and persistent poverty, which negatively impact quality of life and well-being, worsen the impacts of shocks, and undermine our ability to recover and thrive.
