National Council on Independent Living (NCIL), Mobilization and Engagement Coordinator,
About NCIL
The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) is the nation’s longest-running, cross-disability, grassroots organization run by and for people with disabilities. For over 40 years, NCIL has advanced the Independent Living movement through advocacy, leadership, and community power. Our members — individual advocates, Centers for Independent Living (CILs), and Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs) — are the heartbeat of this movement.
Now, NCIL is evolving to meet the next generation of challenges — and we’re looking for a dynamic Mobilization and Engagement Coordinator to help lead that charge.
The Opportunity
This is more than a job, it’s a movement. The Mobilization and Engagement Coordinator will transform NCIL’s membership operations into a powerful national engine for grassroots advocacy. You’ll engage, organize, and empower NCIL members across the country to take collective action, strengthen state and local networks, and drive systems change.
You’ll also ensure that members stay connected through NCIL’s membership systems, keeping renewals, updates, and engagement opportunities running smoothly.
This position reports jointly to:
Director of Advocacy and Public Policy: providing ongoing supervision, strategic guidance, and alignment with NCIL’s policy priorities.
Executive Director: providing limited fiscal oversight to ensure timely and accurate membership renewals and invoicing.
What You’ll Do
•Lead and support national grassroots mobilization efforts that advance NCIL’s policy priorities.
•Work directly with regional and state leaders to strengthen advocacy capacity.
•Develop and share action alerts, campaign materials, and advocacy toolkits that inspire engagement.
•Build and maintain relationships with NCIL members, committees, and partners to foster collaboration and inclusion.
•Manage and update NCIL’s membership portal and database, ensuring members have full access to tools, renewals, and engagement opportunities.
•Support leadership development initiatives that bring new advocates into the Independent Living movement.
•Provide regular membership and engagement reports to staff, board, and regional representatives.
Who You Are
•A relationship-builder who can connect with advocates across diverse communities.
•A communicator who can craft messages that mobilize people into action.
•A collaborator who thrives on teamwork, coordination, and shared success.
•An organizer who sees systems and strategies that turn passion into progress.
Required Skills and Experience
•Strong writing and communication skills, especially for advocacy or mobilization content.
•Demonstrated experience in grassroots organizing, community engagement, or movement-building.
•Proven ability to grow and support a membership network.
•Excellent collaboration and relationship management skills.
Preferred
•Experience with membership management or CRM platforms.
•Familiarity with disability rights and the Independent Living philosophy.
•Lived experience with disability and / or deep ties to the disability community are strongly encouraged.
Why NCIL?
Join a team that believes independent living is not just a program, it’s a right. You’ll be part of a passionate national network working every day to create equity, access, and justice for people with disabilities.
The revolution is here, and we need your voice.
