About the Training

Originally developed as an on-location training, this training will help you incorporate all of the services and programs your Center offers to create a seamless environment where consumers work with your staff to realize their independence. Not only will you learn best practices and innovative approaches to the four core services and other common CIL programs, you’ll gather proven methods for joining your services and programs to create a holistic and supportive environment for consumers. Led by a team of highly experienced and effective center staff, this training is practical and necessary for new CIL staff and managers.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will have gained the skills and resources to:

  • gather consumer information, develop IL Plans & maintain complete and accurate records,
  • use a strengths-based approach to interviewing and assisting consumers to assess their needs,
  • assist consumers to identify and reach their IL goals,
  • use core services to achieve goals—determining what needs to be done, and who is responsible,
  • identify and apply policies, procedures and staff training that result in effective interactions with consumers,
  • integrate the four core services with each other and with other CIL and community services,
  • implement and track effective Information and Referral services,
  • strengthen Peer Support services, including peer recruitment, training and supervision,
  • strengthen IL Skills Training and Individual Advocacy, and understand the overlap between these two services,
  • connect the dots between consumer needs and Systems Advocacy

Target Audience

CIL administrators, staff, board members and advocates involved in service coordination and the provision of the four core services for persons with disabilities. This is an introductory training best suited for new staff or those moving into new positions.
